Manual Transmission Fluid (MTF)

Manual transmission fluid lubricates and removes heat from internal components in the manual transmission (also called a gearbox).  There is no filter in manual transmissions so protection from contaminates is dependent on the oil holding the contaminants in suspension until they are drained. Replacement of transmission fluid is inexpensive insurance for optimum transmission life.

To replace the manual transmission fluid, our Technician drives the vehicle to get the fluid warm, drains and refills the transmission with fresh Nissan HQ Multi 75W-85 MTF.  The type of oil used is critical for smooth shifting.  Beshoff has found that GL4 and GL5 oils can contribute to noticeable notchy shifting performance.  Flushing is unnecessary with manual transmissions.

Replacement Interval: every 30,000 miles or 2-years per Infiniti includes Premium Schedule to ensure proper lubrication of the gears and bearings within the gearbox. It is not included in any Schedule 1 or 2 services, one should consider adding a-la-carte if following the Schedule 1 or 2 program.
