Infiniti Premium Schedule and Schedule 1 includes engine oil and filter change at 3,750 miles or 3-months, which ever comes first. The minimalist Schedule 2 includes this service every 7,500 miles or every 6-months. What most of consider to be "normal" driving is actually what Infiniti lists as "severe service" driving. This includes frequent short trips (less than 10 miles, especially during cold weather), stop-and-go city traffic driving, driving in dusty conditions (gravel roads, etc.), and driving at sustained highway speeds during hot weather.
As an engine accumulates miles blow-by increases (where engine combustion chamber gases escape past the piston rings and contaminate the engine oil). This can also allow more unburned fuel into the crankcase which dilutes the oil which further causes the oil to break down. If the oil isn't changed often enough, you can end up with accelerated wear and all the engine problems that come with it , such as loss of performance and fuel economy, and increased emissions and oil consumption.
How often should I check my oil?
All gasoline engines consume a small amount of oil as part of normal operation. Acceptable oil consumption varies by model, but most engines may consume approximately 1 quart per 1,000 miles and this would not indicate internal problems. We recommend checking oil levels once a month a month and topping off with the same oil as last filled. If you notice a change in the amount of engine oil consumed, it could indicate an oil leak or internal problem.
What kind of Oil Does Beshoff Use?
Our standard fill oil is quality5W-30 Castrol Syntec Blend oil for all services and oil / filter changes. This Semi-synthetic oil is a combination of the best qualities of Synthetic oil with the price point closer to that of conventional oil. Most shops use conventional oil, so be sure to ask what is going in your engine! For G37 and FX50 Owners we use Nissan Ester oil as recommended by Infiniti.
