There is no financial reward for certification, only satisfaction of knowing we are doing our best to leave a better place for our children. To become a Santa Clara County Green Certified Business the following must comply with all environmental regulations applicable to business and submit to county inspections to verify compliance. Beshoff Infiniti has completed the following steps:
Track water and energy usage, solid and hazardous waste generation
Provide ongoing incentive and training to encourage management and employee participation in the green business program
Inform our customers about our business' environmental efforts
Inform our business partners of our green efforts and encourage them to do the same
Recycle all cardboard, paper, glass, metal, aluminum plastic and scrap metal
Use 30% post-consumer waste recycled paper for printers, folders, envelops letter head and business cards to save trees
Use refillable pressurized spray cans for brake cleaners and lubricants (in place of aerosol type) to cut emissions
Buy engine oil in bulk saving on waste plastic containers
Discourage printing emails to save paper
Eliminate fax cover sheets by using "sticky" fact directory notes
Eliminate unnecessary forms by switching to electronic forms and email distribution
Use of electronic bulletin boards and routing lists to reduce printed copies
Reduce unwanted mailings by switching to predominantly internet and email based marketing
Eliminate Styrofoam for packaging
Eliminate single use plastic water bottles (not everyone likes this change, but its the right thing to do!)
Lease rather than purchase computers and printers
Print on previously printed paper
Reuse packaging materials
Designate a reuse area for office supplies such as binders, folders and staplers
Reuse garbage bag liners when possible
Use recycled toner cartridges
Use 365 programmable thermostat to control heating and air conditioning
Use energy efficient double paned windows on at least 90% of windows
Use energy efficient lighting and use timers, motion sensors an daylight sensors
Use task lighting instead of area lighting where possible
Use of light color exterior walls and roofing to reflect more sunlight
Institute a written policy that all electronic devises be turned off when not in used and place reminders on light switches to remind staff to turn off lights when not in use.
Clean HVAC permanent filter with mild detergent every two months; replace replaceable filters every 2 months; check entire system for cooling leaks, duct sealing, clogs and obstructions of air intake and vents; Clean condenser coils of dust and lint
Clean evaporator coils of excessive frost; inspect and repair economizer on AC system
Assign a person to monitor energy bill, water bill for sudden rise in energy use (our business office does this)
Use of energy efficient T-5 and T-8 florescent lights
Use of high pressure vehicle wash equipment
Install flow aerators on faucets
Use only dry methods to clean sidewalks and driveways
Install match perceptional rate sprinkler heads in turf areas and test 4-times per year; water during mornings to reduce water loss from evaporation;
Use of low water usage toilets and urinals
Use of fully enclosed waste transfer system for waste liquids
Spill prevention training and provide spill clean equipment
Special storage for hazardous materials
Eliminate use of powdered absorbent for routine clean up; use of cleaner lubricants containing n-hexane; use water based brake washing method
Use longer lasting synthetic blend oil
Use detergent based rather than caustic based cleaning solution in parts washer
Use industrial laundry service for shop rags and uniforms and one that recycles its waste water (preferred green partners!)
Recycle empty hazardous materials containers
Pollution prevention: Seal shop floor and routines inspect for potential leaks and spills. Use "dry" cleaning methods
Regularly check and clear storm drain openings and basins of litter debris and soil and make sure that no water from cleaning enters storm drain
Install sand-oil separator for sewage water for shop drains
Recycle antifreeze, motor oils and crush engine oil filters
