Infiniti Develops New Wireless Charging for Electric Vehicles

While electric vehicles are all the rage these days, unfortunately, the hassle of having to charge them is not. Searching for an outlet, dealing with wires, and fidgeting with a plug is the bane of many an EV owner's existence. It may seem like a minor inconvenience to pay for incredible efficiency, but it has stopped more than a few potential buyers from investing in a more eco-friendly vehicle. That said, we here at Beshoff Infiniti are excited to announce that our favorite luxury automaker has recently developed a new method for wirelessly charging an electric vehicle.

The new technology is similar to those invented for use with Smartphones and other electronics. Where the smaller version has users place their tablet computer or mp3 player on a small charging pad, this new system simply requires the vehicle to be parked over a much larger charging surface. From there, the device begins wirelessly transmitting electricity  from the pad to a device attached to the bottom of the vehicle.

Impressed? We certainly are. This is like something out of the future, though admittedly, there are some things about it that could use improvement. For instance, right now, only 80-90 percent of the electricity makes the jump from the charging pad to the vehicle. Though, it's also worth noting that a production model of this charger is still more than a year away, so there's plenty of time for Infiniti to work out the problems and make it as efficient as possible.

As for the vehicle that this new charging device will work with? That will have to wait for another time. Infiniti is reportedly planning to announce a 2014 electric vehicle model in the coming months, so make sure to stay tuned for more information on that as it becomes available.
